A four day music festival, within a six day film festival produced some memorable moments
(L-R: Garry Hughes, Andrew T. Mackay & Gurpreet Chana)
Bombay Dub Orchestra’s set with Gurpreet Chana was an impressive display of live electronica and percussion. For those who missed out on this first collaboration between these artists, a live recording was made -check back for details on it’s release.
Who could forget walking out of Santosh Sivan’s Before the Rains screening & finding the film’s composer, Mark Killian perforing selections from the soundtrack?
Or watching Gingger, the world’s only female double violinist perform with Gurpreet Chana on the Rhythm Village opening night?
Featured on the soundtrack for the film Kissing Cousins, Jessica Fichot brought her music box, toy accordion and her ability to sing in French & English -and definitely made some new fans that night.
Our good friend, Rasika Mathur screened her first music video, The Sari (W)rap during the shorts program & got a special seranade from Stanford’s Raagapella. Check back here for both of those videos here soon.

Long-time collaborator, CJ brought his usual intensity and flair to the stage on both Friday night & Saturday during the RD Burman tribute performance.
(L-R: Sandeep, Doc Bladez)
After shutting down the packed courtyard the night before with a Bhangra set that featured live Dhol from Jesse Tooray and vocals from CJ, Doc Bladez (right) joined Sandeep (fresh in his white tee off a flight from Boston) on stage for a couple of tracks off Sandeep’s debut From the Outside to close out the week.

Our fervent thanks go out to all of the performers, DJ’s (J-Motion, Doc Bladez, Mike-ill, Heartfood Presents), IFFLA staff (every single one of you!), volunteers that passed out flyers and worked the merch table & of course all of the festival atendees and passersby that stopped to check out the first IFFLA Rhythm Village -we’ll be back next year in a big way!
